About Beto

Nice to meet you, I'm Beto Maia. I am a high-performance athlete, digital accessibility analyst, and director at the Vale PcD NGO. My trajectory is not about overcoming, it's about technique, tactics, and high performance — both on the courts and in code.

The Athlete: Focus on Technique and Podium

Before focusing my energies on Parabadminton, I built a solid foundation of discipline and competitiveness in other elite modalities. I train because I am competitive, I like to win, and my goal is the podium.

Amputee Football (2010-2013)

Minas Gerais Champion. Where versatility and grit took the field and a competitive mentality was forged.

Sitting Volleyball (2013 - Today)

Over a decade dedicated to the sport's elite, building tactical and mental resilience.

Parabadminton (2021-Today)

My main arena. Competing in the SL3 category, I maintain a relentless training routine five times a week, aligning physical preparation with a strict diet and supplementation. The focus? Impeccable technique and the Paralympic goal. Hard work has already taken me to represent Brazil at the Pan Am Championships.

Off the Court (and from the Computer)

When I am not batting shuttlecocks or analyzing lines of code, you will probably find me testing my camera settings on some photos, or splitting my time between the guitar and the piano.

The Analyst and Director: Real Accessibility

Clean Code, Real Access

As a Digital Accessibility Analyst, I combine technical rigor (WCAG, Semantic HTML, ARIA) with the experience of someone who understands that accessibility is not a favor, it's a right.

Leadership and Impact

As Director of Vale PcD, I work directly in management and strategy to transform inclusion into practice, proving that the place of a person with a disability is a place of power.

Much more than complying with the law

I'm not here to help companies just "meet a quota" or tick a box. I work to create digital products that are truly universal, from design conception to final implementation. Talking about accessibility doesn't have to be boring, but it needs to be done well.

SL3 Parabadminton Court

The Category SL3

🏸

Court Area (Singles)

Athletes use only half the court lengthwise. This reduces the need for sudden lateral movements.

🏃

Movement

Players must compete standing up. A central feature of the SL3 class is impaired balance, which directly affects speed and the ability to change direction quickly.

🦿

Equipment

The use of prostheses is allowed, provided they are proportional to the player's body (so as not to give an undue height or reach advantage).

📋

Matches

They follow the international standard: best of three games of 21 points. If there is a tie at 29-29, whoever scores the 30th point wins (maximum limit of 30).

👥

Doubles

In doubles games (combining SL3 with SU5 classes, for example), the entire court is used. This requires a different space coverage dynamic than singles.
